ALTERNATIVE HI-NO-MARU AZALEA DISPLAY

I say "alternative" in order to give the pearl clutchers something to hang their hat on LOL.

I did not say "alternative" because it was a display I considered, but didnt use, either.

I did indeed enter this into a formal show.

It may be easy to dismiss as "kitch" but a lot of consideration went into every element.

Challenging norms while still locked into the traditional format... 

From the "Clashing" pinks and oranges, to dancing on the Japanese flag... it all means something.



I just realized this is a screenshot... I will replace with better quality asap.

MAJOR UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF SCROLL  My first collected tree, assisted by fellow Arbor Arts Collective co-founder, Brian Susler. I found  this guy road-side on the fringes of a construction site. above and below: A couple months after collection in spring of 2013 above and below: Into a Mica pot for 2014 (still undecided as to the front view) above: Spring of 2015 into a deeper pot to facilitate the desired angle change - (note, the bottom of the pot was blocked off to reduce the over all depth of the substrate)  above and below: Spring 2016 - After checking the new root progress, I was able to get it into a shallower pot with a better planting angle. above and below: Late 2016 - Note the new shoot emerging from the lower part of the tree... Here is what the kids call a Photo Dump LOL... Had a fun 3 day event of workshops here at the gardens, featuring guest artists Elle Brodnick-Nieto (Chi), Houston Sanders (Ken), Brian Susler (MKE) and Mark Fields (Indy) Some workshops were Bring Your Own and Some were Material Provided...
